In view of the trend in rising feed prices, one of Topigs Norsvin’s goals is to continuously improve the Total Feed Efficiency of our customers’ businesses. Results from our current benchmark trials that combine Topigs and Norsvin lines give us every reason to believe that we will deliver the best of both worlds when it comes to Total Feed Efficiency.

With feed prices showing upward trends towards the future, it is Topigs Norsvin’s  mission to continuously improve Total Feed Efficiency of our customers’ businesses. Results from our running benchmark trials combining Topigs and Norsvin lines make us truly believe that we will deliver the best of two worlds when it comes to Total Feed Efficiency.
Optimizing Total Feed Efficiency means getting the most efficient conversion of total feed purchased into live pigs delivered to market. Topigs Norsvin aims to improve Total Feed Efficiency of our customers by focusing our breeding efforts on lean, fast growing and efficient finishers, robust and prolific sows, and the highest possible pig survival from birth to slaughter.
All these traits seem to come together in our sow lines, combining the world’s leading maternal lines from Topigs and Norsvin into a unique parent female. Results from ongoing testing indicate litters of +14 liveborn pigs, heavier piglets at birth and weaning and high survival rates.  Finishers are robust and especially when including Norsvin Landrace in the parent female we see great improvements in feed efficiency (-/-0.05) and faster daily gain (+50g/d). The resulting improvements in Total Feed Efficiency can reduce feed costs by as much as $25,000/year for a 1,000 sow operation. We now continue with more extensive product testing to verify these numbers in various production systems
Our R&D efforts will continue to focus on improving Total Feed Efficiency and pigs per sow per year. With rising feed prices, this will help our customers in achieving a profitable pig business for the future.
